#1 expectations

When I was reading the second prompt I could see the Harry Potter books fitting right into what Wolfgang Iser argues. He argues in "The Reading Process" that "expectations are scarcely ever fulfilled in truly literacy texts". This applies to the first two Harry Potter books in many ways. This is my first time reading the Harry Potter books and while reading them what I think is going to happen does not end up happening the way I thought it was going too. J.K Rowling does a fantastic job at keeping you on edge while reading the whole time. I am constantly wanting to know what happens next. I am also constantly trying to figure out what is going to happen even though I am almost always wrong.

Through out the whole first book I thought that Professor Snape was the one who was trying to steal the stone. In the whole book he was described as a mean, dark clothed professor who was out to get Harry. He was also always caught wondering the halls and seen walking the other way when the troll was found in the school. I would have never expected the stuttering, nervous professor quille who wore head wrap. Also in the first book we do not know that much about Voldemort and Harry except that Harry's mother and father were killed by him and that for some reason his mother's love for Harry saved him. When he comes in contact with Voldemort on the back of the professors head Harry is confused and does not know what to expect.

Through out the second book there are also a lot of things that I thought I had figured out that turned out to be not true at all. In the beginning I thought that Malfoy was the heir to Slytherin because he was always making comments about being pure blooded and that he hated half bloods. He was also in Slytherin and his father was too. His father is also known as a not so nice guy who went with Voldemort for awhile when he was strong and full of power. It made perfect sense to me that he was the heir. Then later on through out the book he we find out that Harry can speak to snakes it got me thinking that he could have been the heir, the sorting hat did want to put him in Slytherin for a quick minute. I thought that Harry had accidentally opened the chamber without knowing he did. We then later find out the Ginny was the one who was doing all these things but she did not even know she was doing it because Tom Riddle had gotten to her and was making her do these awful things. I was completely shocked because I was not expecting that at all.

Through out the books the only expectation that I had that was fulfilled was that Harry Potter was going to save the day and that he was going to survive. How else could they have a whole series if the main character, Harry Potter, died in the first two books.
