Throughout
the series so far we have seen the characters change and evolve as the story
has gone on. These developments have changed my interpretation of the story and
its themes. I believe that as the characters come of age, they come into their
own and can really surprise you. Hermione is my favorite example of this
change.
Hermione,
I believe, has changes the most of the three main characters. In the beginning,
she's the brainy girl that knows the spell the help Ron and Hermione out of a
tight spot, but as she grows into a teenager, specifically in the fourth,
fifth, sixth years, we see her development feelings for the opposite sex via
her relationship with Vikor Krum and the constant back and forth that she has
with Ron. This change shows us that she's not just one of the guys anymore,
she's showing us more and more of her softer side. This adds dimension and
depth to her character that I enjoy to read. Not only is Hermione is becoming
more of an intimate character but she remains the voice of reason and in as
she's gotten older, she has become far more intelligent then she was when she
was just a girl. Hermione is solving issues, such as the Defense against the
Dark Arts problem in year five by creating the D.A., and casting spells that are beyond her age,
which foreshadows her future as a successful witch as well as proving that she,
as a muggle born witch, can do anything a pure blood witch can and more. I
relate this part of her life to the struggles women once had and still have
with being allowed to do the same jobs as men, because there are women out
there that prove men wrong everyday just like Hermione has every day at
Hogwarts. By book six, Hermione has become an empowered, intelligent, intimate
young woman that understands everything going on around her without even
trying. She even picks up on the struggles that Harry goes throughout him
having to tell her, especially when it comes to Ginny, it's really Hermione who
tells him it's okay to go after her.
Hermione is a character that acts like the glue that holds
the whole group together, without her and her coming into her own like she has,
there would be a void in our trio.
