Make-up Quiz for Half-Blood Prince

As we read the Half-Blood Prince, we learn that Draco Malfoy has been given a very specific task from the Dark Lord he must complete. If he fails, Draco will be killed. Throughout the book, it becomes more and more evident that this task is causing strong emotional struggles for Draco. He has become very secretive, sneaky, angry, and stressed from the huge burden the task has put on the young boy. An example of the stress becoming too much for Draco is when Harry follows him into the bathroom to find Draco crying. Draco ran to the bathroom after seeing Katie Bell for the first time since he gave her the cursed necklace. Harry sees Draco crying and angry, clearly upset by what he has done and the task he has yet to perform. Towards the end of the book we finally learn of Draco’s task and that he is to kill Dumbledore. However, Snape is the one who follows through with the task instead of Draco. The whole situation Draco was forced into almost makes the reader feel bad for him. Even though he has never been the nicest person, it is very clear throughout the book that he does not want to perform the task of killing Dumbledore and that he feels very bad about cursing Katie. When standing face to face with Dumbledore at the end, Draco says that he has to do this, he has to kill him. Draco was given no choice and was threatened into the task.
