The Elder Wand is the most powerful
wand known to wizards, though most either don’t know of it’s existence or are
ignorant to “the tale of three brothers” veracity. Harry only learns of the
Elder wands existence from the story that Xenophillius told him and then had to
prove its existence to Hermione. The Elder Wand is unmatched, being crafted by
death himself, it has the power to overcome any foe and attracts many wizards
searching for it, which usually ends with the ownership passing from one person
to the next through murder. The only way the Elder Wand to truly work for the
new owner is through him/her killing its previous owner.
Harry owns the Elder Wand at the
end of the series. He obtains it from Voldemort in the battle at Hogwarts and
is the true master of the wand because he stole Draco Malfoy’s wand, which was
supposed to kill Dumbledore, who was the possessor of the wand throughout the
series. The loyalties shifted through to Harry through sheer luck and Harry was
able to tap into its true power to destroy Voldemort.
Harry was repulsed that the wand
had caused so much death and despair. He used it to repair his broken wand and
replaced the Elder wand back into Dumbledore’s tomb so that when he died, the
power of the Elder wand would distinguish.
