One of the best things about the seventh book is the fact that many of characters had a chance at redemption. Ron, who came back to help Harry after he left. Percy, who abandoned his family yet returned when they needed him the most. Dudley, who was this mean brainless oaf, had a slight insightful change in character. Draco, who pretty much sold his soul to the devil didn’t even rat out Harry. Snape, who we thought couldn’t get any worse but ended up being better than we could have hoped. And of course Dumbledore who had a whole concept of “The Greater Good” yet realized there is no greater good.
Speaking of Dumbledore my thoughts on him did take a turn for the worst; don’t get me wrong I still love him but not as much. Dumbledore; the great powerful wizard who even after death was still a figure bigger than most, but as the seventh book unfolds the real story of Dumbledore is revealed. As I read the last book I came to the realization that Dumbledore wasn’t as great as Harry (and I) thought he was. This conclusion had nothing to do with his concept of “The Greater Good” but with his use of Harry and Snape. I understand the reason why he did do these things but it still made me realized that Dumbledore isn’t what I thought he was and he lost some of my respect.
