Extra Credit

Severus Snape will always be my favorite Harry Potter character in the series. He is such a complex man and I find it fascinating how our perception of him changes so drastically throughout the series. Snape was always portrayed as the “bad guy” throughout the books, until Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. We find out so much in this book that should have been picked up on at the beginning of the series.

As a reader, it was scary to see Snape be appointed Headmaster of Hogwarts. We find out through the book however, that Snape used his authoritative position to protect the students. Snape also used his patronus to help Ron and Harry, which was another surprise in his character. When Nagini finally kills Snape and his memories are flooded into the air, Harry can see that Snape’s loyalty was to Lily and Harry the entire time. Snape was truly the most selfless and complex character in the books.
